Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Brown County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be kept long enough to review it and respond. Such messages remain within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers may automatically receive basic technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They help measure traffic patterns, including popular pages and points where visitors leave. Analytics providers combine this activity into site-use reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the appropriate outside provider
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Measuring which pages are useful or need improvement
- Operating the site and maintaining page speed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Brown County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record information. It publishes general directions to Brown County custodians, including the Sheriff's office, criminal courts, the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Records Division, and the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or personal records about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through a box is governed by that provider's privacy policy rather than this one. Each provider chooses its own retention and disclosure practices, which are outside this site's control. Review those terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Brown County offices, court portals, Texas agencies, legal-aid resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read that policy before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may measure activity across websites to select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems, not systems controlled here.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Government or law-enforcement bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure
- Advertising networks that place ads on site pages
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a submitted query
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for collected data. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, however, so the possibility of unauthorized access cannot be eliminated.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If data from a minor is identified, a request may be made for its prompt deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with residence and applicable law. The Texas Public Information Act governs access to qualifying government records, not data held by a private website. Texas Government Code §§411.083-.087 separately limits the confidentiality and authorized dissemination of criminal-history record information held by DPS. Subject to applicable law and verified identity, a visitor may:
- Opt out of certain forms of processing when that choice is available
- Request deletion of eligible personal data
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Request access to personal data held about them
Updates to This Policy
This privacy policy may be revised. Any revision will be posted here and identified by a new effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
Effective date: August 9, 2026
